Book Review: Adios, Nirvana!

Adios, Nirvana! By Conrad Wesselhoeft

Check it out here!

What it's about: Jonathan has lost his twin brother and is having a tough time coping and everyone is concerned and wants to help him.

Why I picked it up: The title of the book and cover art.

What I thought of it: I thought it was full of emotion and Jonathan finally started to really live again. He finally came to terms with his brother's death and the whole book was written beautifully.

I would suggest this for: Anyone who wants to read a book about someone who grows up emotionally and helps others unknowingly.

Movie Review: 2001 - A Space Odyssey

2001: A Space Odyssey
Dir. Stanley Kubrick
Check it out here!

What's it about: Ummmm. something about a black monolith and a malfunctioning supercomuter. The plot is very boring.

What I thought about it: Too much time listening to the same music while watching a spaceship/ other thing in motion (extremely slow moving). No actual plot like the writer of the plot started with a valid idea and then ran out of stuff to say and 90% of the movie is filler. Unless you want to watch 30 minutes of chimps screeching just to start. This is highly NOT recomended.

Why I picked it up: It is referenced a lot and I thought that it would be a good movie since it is referenced a lot.

I would suggest this for: So you get the references.

Why I picked it up: A friend requested it

What I thought of it: It was pretty good story. It had a little humor but also some sadness. I watched it with my friend and we had a good time.

Midnight is a Place by Joan Aiken
Check it out form the Lawrence Public Library!

Reviewed by: Emily R., Grade 11

What it's about: Two children in a British-like town become orphans and must deal with the pressures of 19th century industrialism.

Why I picked it: Good cover art.

What I thought of it: Everything is predictable, but pleasant to read and Aiken writes in a way that you can picture the speakers with an accent. It was a little slow.

I would suggest this for: Anyone that likes old-timey, European stories.

Book Review: Kissed by an Angel

Kissed by an Angel by Elizabeth Chandler

What it's about: A girl, named Ivy, has lost her boyfriend Tristan in a car accident. Ivy thinks her life is over but Tristan isn't dead, he's an angel. Tristan tries to reach for Ivy. he's on a mission and it may not be to be with Ivy forever. he might have to protect her from something that could hurt Ivy.

Why I picked it up: My friend had it on her bookshelf and I decided to borrow it from her.

What I thought of it: It was an amazing book. It was a little twisted at the end. it was strange and so surreal that you feel like you're one of the characters in the book.
