What's this book about? It is a retelling of the myth of Persephone!
Why I picked it up: My mother picked it up and she said I might find it interesting, so I read it.

What I thought of it: The descriptions are a little repetitious, but it is a very interesting story. I liked it.

Book Review: The Summer I Turned Pretty

The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han
Reviewed by: Megan S.

What's it about? Belly spends the summer she turns sixteen at the beach just like every other summer of her life, but this time things are very different.

Why I picked it up: I heard good things about it and I was looking for a summery romantic read.

What I thought of it: This was a good, fun, summer read without being total fluff. This book does broach some series subjects, though not in a very direct way.

I loved Belly as I got to know her. She was very real to me. She had bratty moments and endearing moments. She was 100% brave and a total coward. She's one of the most realistic characters in fiction that I've run across in a long time and I really loved that.

This book is fairly predictable and I didn't fall head over heals in love with it the way some people have. I did really enjoy it though - and really, that's all I was hoping for. I will read the next book in this series, but I'm not jumping up and down for it.

Next in the series: It's Not Summer Without You

Book Review: Fallen

Fallen by Lauren Kate
Reviewed by: Natalie C.

What's it about? 17 year old Luce is sent to a reform school to try to recover after witnessing a friend die. While at school she tries to understand the feelings she has for two very different boys. Little does she know how different the boys really are.

Why I picked it up? It was recommended to me by a YA librarian.

What I thought of it? I think that its a very intense and powerful story of love written like no other before it. Parts in it made me laugh and others made me cry, and it kept me hooked until the very last page.

Already read Fallen? Check out the next book in the series, Torment, and make sure to reserve your copy of the third book int he series, Passion.

Book Review: Sweet Treats and Secret Crushes

Sweet Treats and Secret Crushes by Lisa Greenwald

What's it about? Three girls in middle school and how their friendship is changing as they are growing older.

Why I picked it up? I like YA fiction, I find the themes of most "adult" fiction to be a bit inappropriate for my taste.

What I thought of it? I liked it, it was a really quick read and I liked how the story is told by three different points of view.
