Who Should Play Peeta?

Now that Jennifer Lawrence has been cast as Katniss Everdeen in the 2012 film version of The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, it's time to cast the other District 12 Tribute, Peeta Mellark. The internet is buzzing with gossip about which young Hollywood hunk might land the coveted role.

Josh Hutcherson, Alex Pettyfer, and Hunter Parrish are three names that keep popping up. Of the three front runners, who do you think should play Peeta?

Hunter Parrish, 23 years old
Starred in: 17 Again, It's Complicated, and the tv series WEEDS.

Josh Hutcherson, 18 years old.
Starred In: Cirque du Freak: The Vampires Assistant, The Kids Are All Right, and the upcoming Journey 2: The Mysterious Island with Vanessa Hugdens
Alex Pettyfer, 21 years old.
Starred In: Alex Rider: Operation Stormbreaker, Beastly, and I Am Number Four (also rumored to be the front runner for Jace Wayland in the film adaptation for City of Bones by Cassandra Clare)

Who do you think should play Peeta? Josh, Alex, or Hunter? Or do you have someone else in mind? Leave us a comment! We want to know who you think is worthy to play Peeta Millark.

Send your support to Japan

You already know that Japan is experiencing a terrible tragedy.  But did you know that there's something you can do to help?  The head of TokyoPop, a major manga publisher, is asking everyone to write letters of support to lift the spirits of the Japanese people and teenagers living in shelters.  After visiting one of the shelters he says:
So, I thought, what if I gather letters from our community and deliver those letters to them? They can't read much English but so many of you can draw beautifully as well as write poems, simple letters, and even some decorative Japanese phrases. Maybe you can include a photo of yourself and friends (cosplay!) - or something about you. Anything to let the Takasago students know that you are cheering them on - and to put a smile on their face.

Get more information on the project (they even have Japanese phrases that you can include in your letters).  Then send your letters and drawings to this address:

We have a Katniss!

The name of The Hunger Games' leading lady has finally been revealed. Jennifer Lawrence will play the role of Katniss. Jennifer was recently nominated for an Academy Award with her performance in Winter's Bone, a movie about a tough and independent girl trying to keep her impoverished family together.

We're pretty excited about the casting and think Jennifer will bring an edge to the set. She's got the acting chops to prove it. There's been some debate about her age and looks, though. Jennifer is 20, 4 years older than Katniss at the beginning of the series. Her skin, hair, and eye color is also described as much darker in the book.

So what do you think of the casting?
And who do you think will be announced next?

Time to destroy some BBS...

Our Top Requested Books

Every month we keep a tally of the "most requested books" in the Zone. It's not only a great way to keep track of what genres and authors are rockin' YA Literature, it's also a way for us, the librarians, and you, our facebook-loving patrons, to keep in the reading mood.

Personally, I suffer from the BBS- the Bad Book Syndrome. This occurs after I have read something particularly uninteresting to me. When it comes to these books, it doesn't matter how far I read into it, I just can't make myself enjoy the writing, the characters, the dialogue, the plot, etc. And then what happens once I do finish the book?

I refuse to pick out another book to read.

I mean, seriously, how many of you can say that this has never happened to you? You force yourself to read a book, because you're already halfway through it, but you dislike it so vehemently that you can't get yourself to read another novel for weeks! This, right here, is classic BBS.

[Disclaimer: Not everyone will suffer from BBS regarding the same books. Everyone enjoys different genres, authors, writing styles, etc. This is a personal Syndrome that does have a cure. Keep reading for more information.]

No worries though fellow BBS sufferers! I think that the YA Librarians here might have finally found a cure:  Our Monthly Top Requested Books

These books have been tested and approved by numerous readers, and it's this fact that leads me too look at our lists month after month after month. Whenever I'm feeling a bout of BBS coming on, I go to these lists, pick a few titles out, scan their blurbs, and Voila!

I have my next book....

So, you say, where are these so-called lists? I don't see any on here at the moment...
